Humans have been using the mineral for decoration for millennia, and this 'microcrystalline' type of pure quartz, also called rock crystal, is so clear it's transparent. The gem's crystalline structure is extremely delicate, only visible under a microscope, but its aesthetic appeal is perfectly clear!
